Two Monkeys Writing From The Image

I really enjoyed this poem about the two monkey's sitting in a window. The author turned a simple picture into something of such greater meaning. From the poem it seems she relates the monkey to her past. Each monkey represents a different path that she could potentially take. Beyond both of the monkeys is a blue open sky, meaning her path is wide open for her to make or break. The exam she is taking is the make or break of her of entire future. The symbolism of this poem really inspired me to write deeper about the pictures and objects that I see around me. I would have never thought of such an inspiration from a picture of a couple of monkeys. The last paragraph was what really tied the entire poem together for me. One of the monkey’s is staring at her, prompting her to go for her dreams almost while the other is sitting there dozing off into space. This one monkey staring at her seems to be the future that is wide open for her and most promising. The monkey seems to be signaling to her that it is possible to release that side of her, and that her dream is possible to achieve as long as she just pushes for it. I greatly enjoyed reading this piece and would love to write a symbolism piece a lot like this.

  1. So one thing to think about with these "Reading as a Writer" responses is to take your learnings and apply them to a piece of writing you are working on in class.
