9/11 Visual Poem

Just a piece of wood,
Simple.
Flags, flowers, pictures, and quotes
Hang from every inch of its being.
But step a little closer,
Listen a little deeper.
Feel The pulsing of hearts.
Broken hearts from the ones who have lost.
Taste the thousands of salty tears,
Tears shed for something that seems so simple from the outside.
Now step back.
See this memorandum for its real purpose.
Feel all their emotions from that dreaded day,
Scared, loneliness, worry and sorrow.
"Not for steel and concrete,
but for the lives lost,
And all those who suffer,
Our hearts are with you,
May your souls find peace."

  1. Another good start - if you are considering revising this for the future, try integrating specific images/ images to help capture some of the abstract concepts you list e.g., scared, loneliness, worry...what are anecdotes/ scenarios/ questions/ comparisons you can make that would get the same sentiment across?
